Step 1: View the portrait examples contained in the links above. Keep looking until you find five images that you feel you could use as ideas for your introduction portrait.

Step 2: Briefly describe what is happening in these images, and how you will use these as ideas for your partner’s introduction portrait as a comment to THIS POST.

1. Read and respond to today’s tutorial, taking stunning portraits.
2. Interview one person from your CFG group I put you in yesterday.
3. After you’ve read over the tutorial and completed the interview, start shooting the  Introduction Portrait Assignment.
4. Portrait is due on 9/7.

After reading over the above tutorial, answer the following questions using complete sentences.Post the answer as a comment to this post.

What are five ways to create stunning portraits? What makes these portraits unusual? Do we see any of these portraits as traditional? How can you make your photos also as stunning and unconventional as the ones in this tutorial?

1. Finish up the classroom rule your group was writing yesterday based on a line from To This Day.
2. Interview one person from your CFG group I put you in yesterday.
3. Go through the questions contained in the Introduction Portrait Assignment. Make sure everyone in your group is interviewed.

Here is the example. Above is a portrait of me, in my own environment, surrounded by my student work. Most definitely photographed in my zone. You will do the same thing to someone in this class.You will find out:

Choose one person from your Critical Friends Group to take a picture of. Make sure everyone in your CFG has a photo partner. Once everyone is paired up we will do an interview, then take a portrait of the person. Portrait’s can be inside (studio, with lighting) or outside (natural light, use a reflector to fill in the face.).

The person’s name (duh?!)

Where they are from.

One activity apart from cellphones that this person enjoys.

What makes them the absolute happiest?

One word they would use to describe themselves?

What sort of socks to they wear?

How would they describe their own fashion sense?

Favorite food.

Favorite artist/band/dj/rapper/classical music composer/opera singer/Throat Singer

What this person wants out of life.

Where do they want to be in 10 years.

Where will they probably end up in 10 years.

Post these answers as a comment to the blog. THEN TAKE A PHOTO THAT FEATURES ONE OF THESE ELEMENTS.

Suggestions:

You could superimpose a flag over their face. The flag would represent where they come from.
Light the scene so that the personality of the person is reflected. Is it warm and mellow or harsh and scary?
Think about where that person wants to be in 10 years. Create that reality.

Interview is due at the end of the period today! Photo is due on Wednesday.
