What ideas do you get for your own work? How would you approach the theme of Wild in five photographs?
The theme of “wild” has to do with things in their natural environment, doing as they will without human interaction. These photos show things in their natural environment, not giving hoots about civilization, whether they be clouds, butterflies or even people. These photos show that humans can step into nature and touch it, but it is a power they can’t truly control. Special effects are used to say these things. For example, in one photo, the person’s hands are removed to show that they can’t control nature. These photos want me to show people in nature, instead of just photos of nature. This is how I would want to approach this theme; humans among the wild aspect of nature.

All of these photos are in nature. Each photo makes the person interact with the environment/nature around them. Chen’s work has a surreal and magical feel. She uses photoshop and perfect angles to create these images. I get the idea to connect the background to the main subject. I would approach the theme of Wild in five photographs in a similar way by having the subjects interact with plants and animals.
The subjects are working in the wild and use the wild to create a great photo. To me the photos tell me that nature is beautiful in its own way. In some of the photos the people look like they are taking from the earth and giving nothing in return. Chen played with lighting and photoshop to make the subjects look like they are more involved with nature. I get the idea of taking photos of the darker side of nature because not everything is brighter on the other side unless you make it brighter. I would take photos of the more mild side of the wild to represent dark in light.

The theme of “wild” is shown in these images because they all show something in their natural environment, doing things they would normally do without interactions with others. These images show that when people are in nature, they don’t care about what else is going on and that humans can touch the nature and be one with it. Special effects, like the girl with no hands, is capable of showing the audience that no one can control nature, and people just need to go with the flow. While looking at these photos it makes me want to instead of just shooting nature, maybe try showing how people can interact with it.
