How might you combine illustration with your own photography?
He combines illustration with actual photography by literally interacting with illustrations. Either by having a photo of drawing them, or interacting with the sketches themselves (like touching them or fighting with them), he interacts with the illustrations. How he does self portraits unconventionally is rather obvious; rather than making them unconventional with odd colors or composition, he has odd elements (the sketches) in the photos. I could do something similar, only switched around. Rather than having the illustration in our own world, I could be in it’s.
He uses Photoshop to combine the drawing and subject together and gives the illusion that the drawing is no longer 2D. I could probably use my artistic skill in drawing or pottery and add it into another art form. I could take one of my drawings of a shoe and add it into a photo of my subjects feet.
i think how the photographer was able to do this was to take layer after layer in Photoshop and just deleting the parts of art pieces that didn’t need to be there.

In these photos the photographer brought the drawing and the photo together so well. The program he could of used was simply Photoshop cause i could make something similar through Photoshop. These think outside of the box quite a bit and its cool because it kind of reminds me of like comic book drawings.

Del Grasso combines illustration with portrait photography by creating a layer in photoshop and drawing over the photo and erasing certain elements of the photo to make the photos look like they were drawings. He turns conventional self portrait work on it’s ear by making the photos have character and give the photos a unique effect. I really loved the one of the wings, I wonder if the photos would work if the drawings were on a different colored background. That would be fun to try, like black background and white illustrations or skin toned background and lines.
