How is Shur’s attempt at portrait work different from other portrait work that you have seen? How does she use color in these images to get moods or feelings across? How does Shur use framing in these images? What ideas do you get for your own  work?

  1. The photographer used a lot of cool colors, to make it look gloomy. Maybe a little sad too. There are a few photos though that have warmer colors that are quite elegant. It is also a nice touch with the water too thats a big part of the photo.

  2. Shur’s work is different from the standard portrait work due to the emphasis on just the face, as well as creating eerie moods with color and composition. The colors are less happy and bright, and generally moodier, like blue, or dark red. Because of this, the photos are introspective and a little creepy. The use of framing is pretty creative, with the liquid being the frame. The model is being framed by it. For my own work, I want to try similar portrait work with creepy aesthetics and dark, thoughtful moods.

  3. He used water and the lighting is different which makes the water look different and makes it look more foggy instead of clear so we only see her face. The colors that are used make me think she’s like drowning and is deep in something and can’t get out. He uses framing by using the water which covers most of her body except her face. I get the idea of using framing and working with something that makes one thing standout.

The colors make the image feel calming and surreal Shur uses the water to frame the subject. I get the idea to use different framing devices and get up close in my own work.

    – I can have a more emotional connection between the subject and the portrait.

    Its close up and the person isnt always looking at the camera

    By changing the color we can think that the person is in danger or simply relaxing

    She uses a fog affect around the women’s face.

    and they have a type of theme and there is lot of emotion in all of the photographs
    this makes me want to use framing in my pictures more

    It is very up close and there is a lot of color with effects. I believe the colors play with your emotions and set the tone for the portraits. The hair seems to be part of the framing and the effects along with it. The ideas I get is adding more color to my photos and effects.

The colors she uses in these images gives moods or feelings when viewing, like pinks and blues to give a sense of liveliness. Shur uses fog and water to frame in these images. These photos are very beautiful and enchanting, this style would make a good cover photo for a t.v. show or drama.

  15. its a different style, i feel like in some of these pictures she looks dead. the photographer uses her hair and i believe that’s colored water to frame this woman’s face. i think the colors used create a mood of being dead or alive. i could do unusual framing techniques.
